Actually,

    close(in);

should either be removed or changed into

    closesocket(in);

It did no harm in NT4, but who knows how XP would respond...

On WindowsXP, I have tried both closesocket(in) and nothing at all.  I first
run against a Known Bad library.  I then run against a Known Good library.
The driver starts the library as expected but crashes upon the first
connection.
