[DGD] atoi

I am probably missing something obvious here, but how does such a function get the name "atoi"?  "stoi" I could understand, converting a "S"tring "TO" an "I"nteger.  My first thought was array to integer :)  I am obviously on a lower plane to the rest of the coding world.  Can anyone spare any wings?
