This idea has rather interesting possibilities within a theme that
implements reincarnation when a character dies.  :) 

Evil characters are reincarnated as lesser creatures (those closer to the 
earth) while Good characters are reincarnated into higher creatures (those
closer to heaven).  

The playability of such a creature advancement or decline may come into 
question, but such a transformation might be reserved to the extremes.
It's more likely that one would be reincarnated into less or more
powerful playable characters.
