I'm thinking of a mud with permenant death I played a long while back -
might have been DartMUD.  At any rate, you could wear amulets of life or
something, which effectively 'caught' your soul when you died.  Now...the
amulet didn't do much more than that, it just sat there, so you have to
count on your buddies retreiving it from your mangled corpse, then using
the amulet to release your soul into another body - which could be
anything from a rat to a dragon.  Kinda cool, though I didn't play
long enough to see it in action.
