Writing as list owner:

  Please don't.  This thread is on topic per the list charter as it is
discussing the IO and threading model used in implementing a MUD
server and as such is of interest to those working on server designs.
While it is not one of the more "soft" threads which have been the
list's wont of late, such soft threads are *NOT* the definition of the
list topic.

the the list charter.

  (I also note that this same area was discussed in significantly less
detail and usefulness back in the early days of the list at begami
(where I championed asynchronous thread pools to handle IO).
