I've always looked at this sort of talking about things as a way to make
sure that whatever good ideas I come up with end up in the hands of people
that can do something with them. I'll probably come up with a half dozen
ways to do something when I start buckling down on a project; obviously, I
can only do one of them, but one or two of the rest might be a good idea
for someone else's project.

It's kind of what I think community's about, I guess. I have more ideas
than I can use, so I may as well pass them out to other people. Some of
them will grow and turn into something better, and maybe I'll end up seeing
something really great come back. Maybe I'll see one of my ideas pop up on
some commercial game, mutated a little but still distinct. Maybe someone
will take some offhand comment and build an entire system around it. I like
that sort of thing; I like the idea that there's a little of me in someone
else's work. I like seeing how other people interpret my ideas, I like
getting fresh perspectives on what I was proposing. That ends up helping me
come up with more ideas, which I can pass back in... it all feeds on
itself. I think it ends up making the world a better place in some small
fashion.

Or then again... considering some of the ways people interpret my
statements on other mailing lists... I could just be making things worse. ;)
