On 10:48 PM 5/2/99 +0200, I personally witnessed Ola Fosheim Gr=F8stad
jumping up to say:

>So, what are you custom server guys doing? Have you been able to stick to
>your vision, or has it changed? =20

Well, my vision is locked down at the moment. I have a lot of ideas and a
lot of concepts, but I chose... and I think this was a wise choice... to
restrict my initial release to a strict porting effort. The internals of
the game itself are to remain unchanged from the DOS release, and only the
networking and communications code will be redesigned. The end result is
that I can concentrate on the how instead of the what, and worry about
adding nifty features and fancy things later.=20

>I see that Ben keeps pushing ScryMUD, but
>what about Jon and the roleplaying supporting client, JC, Caliban, Ling,
>Yospe and all the others? Are you "pushing" (implementing) or "butching"
>(redesigning)?

I've unfortunately implemented very little... I have a telnet driver, and
that's pretty much it. Most of what I've done at present is geared toward
getting the existing DOS source tidied up and compiling cleanly, which I
have yet to finish; this stuff is a real pain. However, the demands on my
time have GREATLY lessened with my new job, so I should see much more
progress in the coming months... I now telecommute full-time, so I can
respond to inspiration immediately instead of having to jot down notes and
email them home. I have yet to locate a home for the MUD when it's ready to
test; but then, I've been eyeing the possibility of putting a frame relay
drop into the basement, which would fix that problem.

On the legal front, I've actually put money into the original author's
hands -- finally -- so the sudden resurgence of interest in the game is no
longer quite as much of a stress point. About the time I finally said the
name of the product out loud on this list via my .sig block, the game's
author was suddenly besieged with about a dozen requests for licensing.
Looks like I was in the right place at the right time on this, for once,
although he did end up having to display an inordinate amount of patience
when I lost my job immediately before I was due to make the first payment.=
