Oh yes, no doubt. However, there can be arguments made for degrees of
exploitation. Star Wars is a commercially exploitable property in all its
forms, but most Star Wars fans I've talked to call the most recent film a
total sell-out.

An interesting thought that I hope Raph will respond to: Raph, you have
been one of the major proponents in past discussions on mud-dev for the
idea that the players partially own the game in some sense. Couldn't the
same be said for the fans of a license like Star Wars or Tolkien or
Ultima? Do you believe any obligation accrues to you as a designer of
licensed property games as a result of this? If you don't believe that the
fans 'own' part of the property in the same way that the players of a mud
own the mud, why not?
