Actually, I've been doing a bit of Bringsjord reading today, and he comes to
quite a lot of conclusions that are questionable in my mind. Unfortunately,
I have trouble following the logic in places due simply to lack of knowledge
on my part, so it's hard to say exactly why they don't ring true. All I can
say is that after reading a ways into Cognition is not Computation, I
practically stormed out of my office, knowing that either my thinking was
off kilter, or one of the presumably great minds in AI and philosophy is
building a house of cards on a very shaky foundation. Because that's what I
saw, statements and conclusions that just screamed wrongness in my head.
Unfortunately, as bad as my ego is at times, I'm also something of a
realist, and it doesn't take very long to compare his years researching in
the field against my idle thoughts in my sparetime, and conclude who's most
likely to be wrong here. :(

I haven't been able to track down anything solid on Brutus yet, but I'm
guessing (purely from the title) that Artificial Intelligence and Literary
Creativity is based on his "Cognition is not Computation" argument, which
had quite a number of points that I, in my decidedly non-infinite wisdom,
disagree with. I did see a short story that came out Brutus, however, and
frankly, that story seemed rather interesting to me. In fact it really
quite surprised me. Of course, when I talk about "generating a story", I'm
talking something more along the lines of interesting events and plot lines,
which I think is a much simpler problem than generating all the minute
details of a story. (of course, that's a problem for another day...or
lifetime, as the case may be) :)
