Well, here's my initial response to the "Ten Commandments For The Next
MMORPG." Now that I've gotten this off my chest, I should be able to
respond specifically to the original document...

The Players' Ten Commandments

1. Thou shalt not be like unto the orifices of donkeys; nay, nor like unto
the annoying tug upon one's arm shalt thou be.

2. Thou shalt consider carefully the realities of business before accusing
thy Creators of "being more interested in the money than ::insert ideal
here::."

3. Thou shalt not expect all things for thee to follow upon thy preferred
course, neither game design nor creatures nor fellow players; verily thou
shalt accept gracefully setbacks as an integral part of the Creators'
creation.

4. Thou shalt learn to differentiate between that which is acceptable and
that which must not be abided; that which is acceptable thou shall deal with
in thy own manner, either to turn away from it or to visibly reject it; that
which must not be abided, thou shalt bring to the attention to the Angels of
Heaven.

5. Thou shalt show patience with thy Creators, for they are but human; but
not too much patience shalt thou show, neither accepting nor forgiving their
most grevious failings, for though human they are to thy avatars like unto
gods.

6. Thou shalt take always into advisement the balance of all things, and
expect not to be harkened unto by thy Creators on all things; for thou art
but one player among multitudes, and entitlement is offensive to the sight.

7. Sympathy and patience shalt thou show to those new to thine world; yet
from established players thou shalt not accept rudeness or coarseness or
carelessness, at thy own peril.

8. Thou shalt remember that thou art not indispensible to any given game
design; yea, verily shalt thou keep in mind that thou canst not play every
game upon the whole of creation; therefore thou shalt not demand that each
and every game to be released upon the face of creation meet with thy
demands and specifications.

9. Thou shalt not hand down Commandments to thy Creators, lest thou remain
forever trapped in stale designs lacking innovation and recapitulating the
errors of their forebears; yet despite this thou shalt continue to hold thy
Creators accountable for the quality and reliability of their product.

10. Thou shalt remember always that it is thee and thine, as players and
inhabitants of the Creators' work, who shall bring life blood into Their
world; yea verily, as in the words of the prophet Lehrer, all life is like
unto a sewer, for what flows out of it dependeth on on what thou placest
into it; and if thou findest thyself afloat in a sea of crapulence, thou
shalt not find thyself pure and free from blame.
