Just finished reading the article and here is my take:
There are some flaws in the essay's description of a typical d00d. Instead
of describing a d00d, the writer has combined three different play styles
into one. These play styles are d00d, predator, and power gaming.
First, the d00d. A d00d will heavily use Internet slang. This person will
also likely have a name similar to BuNgH0l3. Not all d00ds are predators or
power gamers.
The predator at its most extreme is the play style largely discussed in
"d00dism and the MMORPG". As stated, these players are predators that fight
for their self worth and to establish superiority over others. The predator
is the most damaging play style in the current MMORPG genre. Being a
predator does not make one a d00d or power gamer.
The power gamer is the third play style described. Power gamers push the
game to its uttermost limits. They will find and exploit bugs. They will
invest the time necessary, no matter how ridiculous, to see tasks to
completion. Power gamers are not d00ds and they are not predators.
The secondary part of the essay does have merit in its suggestions, though
it seems to be a bit skewed towards Everquest =).
