[MUD-Dev] Are eBay sales more than just a fad?

I think there has been a slight misunderstanding, and I think I may be able
to straighten it out. I am in no way associated with Achaea, having neither
worked nor played there, but I think I have a decent idea of how it is run
from Matt's descriptions (I have been paying particular attention, because I
plan on being a competitor someday not so soon... ;). This whole post is an
"I think," so don't take it as gospel. :)

I do not believe that players buy items (at least in quantity, for real
cash) from other players. Most (if not all?) of the pay-cash-for-items
market starts with the game operators. Parts of the game are very fun, and
the easiest way to be better at the fun parts is to shell out cash (of
course, Matt has stressed that player skill does go a long way, but better
equipment helps). It is not so much that they are skipping something, it is
that the ONLY way (short of having buku player skill, and even then, I don't
know if it is possible) to really compete is to pay for more skills and
items.

It was my impression that the very desirable items were not available
in-game at all. The only way that I thought you could get the really good
stuff was to pay for it. There is no camping because there is nothing to
camp for - you want something good, you "just" shell out the dough. :)
