Live Action Role Playing - It's where people dress up in silly
costumes and meet ostensible for the purposes of roleplaying or
recreating events. More often I think for food and drinks. :-)

A number of activities could fall under the LARP label. It could
range from dressing up as soldiers to recreate some historical battle.
Or a medieval/renaissance fair for the purposes of entertainment or
demonstrating period foods, games, costume, arts and crafts. Or
something like dinner theatre or Agatha Christie-like murder mystery
parties. And often it is a direct extension of some paper and pencil
role-playing game.

Vampyre: The Masquerade seems pretty popular around here since most of
the kiddies already own the Goth costumes anyways. :-P
