When I saw the latest press release, the qualifier that sprang to
mind was "the game that launders dirty money".
Basically, if everything I've understood is right, they expect to
sell in-game cash and items for money, and allow people to "recycle"
these in-game items for real-world cash. Their profit is done by
taking a margin on the transactions (you sell for less than you
bought).
The very first thing that sprung to mind was these slimy guys buying
tons of expensive in-game gear in a south american venue, then
meeting as a bunch of pixels in game, and selling the gear back for
untracable cash ("honest officer, I'm making all that money by being
a professsional bodyguard in *that* game").
(that's simplistic, but hell, that's the first thing that I tought
of)
Probably inapplicable for drug money (I assume you need a credit
card transaction to buy in the first place), but perfect to muddy a
financial trail.
