Seemed it wasn't that long ago they got a very large financial package
from some backers.
Communities was real the home of some major virtual worlds players in
the U.S. We had three major influences that came out of the same
region: VPL, Worlds, and Communities. All that is left of VPL is their
technology which is locked deep inside Sun. Worlds technology was
acquired, don't remember who did that, but it was outside the US.
But to characterize Communities as "just a dot-com with dot-com
problems" really understates what Communities was about. But I guess
that shows the mindset there at least at the executive level.
Dot-comism was always a get rich scheme.
