A few ideas come to mind. You could display the timeline graphically-
use a solid line for muds that are actively developed and in use, a
dotted line for muds that are in use but no longer actively developed,
and no line (the line stops) more muds that are no longer active. If
you want to get fancier you can make each codebases's line thicker or
thinner depending on total number of users.
It's probably better to organize code bases by some guesstimate of
popularity (total number of servers * some constant representing
typical concurrent users) than to put everything in two
bins.. ("famous muds" vs. "mud-dev" projects) If some codebase has
some interesting technical properties you could mention that in a
description. Hell, if you want to throw in the kitchen sink you could
alse track genre, bartle type emphasis, types of original content
(text, sound, graphics, etc), development languages, architecture,
platform, license, authors, and where to find the distribution if it's
available.
Hmm.. This is starting to sound like sourceforge, or better yet J C
Lawrence's idea for a development site catering specifically to mud
developers. Have fun! I'm sure it'll only take a weekend or so of
work ;) What terrible force compels us to write these things anyway?
