Another interesting fact(?) that was stated in a TV series on
extinction is that 99.9% of all species that have ever existed are
now extinct.

The problem is not that an entire species can be wiped out, that is
normal in a working ecosystem, but that the predators (players) have
no dependence on the prey for food and they kill for reasons other
than sustenance.
