[MUD-Dev] Request for ideas

Where to begin...

My university requires a yearlong capstone project to be completed
with a group of fellow students to receive an undergraduate degree
(which I hopefully will be getting next spring). (Un)Surprisingly
enough, the group I am working with is making a MUD (at long last!
We code! ;).

I need ideas.

Specifically, I would like pointers to past Good Ideas that haven't
been explored enough, or are implemented poorly, or are just
under-represented in general. We are not looking to just make a
Diku clone, although combat will be a feature. We want to push the
edge a bit.

For instance, one of the main selling points of the project traces
back to the web integration thread a while back. We plan on making
a web interface to the mud-mail system, perhaps integrating that
with another email interface (so players can compose messages in
their favored email client, etc.), having a news page populated
directly from the mud engine, possibly tracking character histories
and allowing them to be displayed online (a'la The Sims), etc.

We will also be trying to promote social / guild / cooperative play,
using some of the ideas expressed in:

Hopefully, we will also be able to implement all of JCL's scenarios
(this one is extra long, the scenarios are towards the middle/end):

We shall see. :)

Feel free to respond off-list, as appropriate. :) I don't mind
getting duplicate links from several people (it serves as a rough
gauge of how many people find what interesting). Also, if you can,
dig things out of the infernal, black depths of the archives, as the
more recent stuff I still have in my MUD-Dev mailbox (I have from
May of this year stored locally).

If there is any interest, we can keep the list updated on our
progress. ;)

Thanks, everyone! :)

Eli
