Hmm, you're right, that would be a problem. Although it's fair to
count people who bought the game but didn't register, it's not
really fair to count the people who were given a free client but
didn't install it.
The reason I was looking at these figures was because of a report in
this week's MCV that said EQ players stayed an average of 8 months.
That would mean an average of one eighth of their players leave
every month, ie. a churn of 12.5% . This seemed a little out, so I
thought I'd try verify it from the few items of raw data that escape
from SOE.
If the 12.5% churn rate is correct, it means that they sign up
around 66,000 newbies every month but lose 54,000 oldbies.
