Personally, I believe a mage should go toe to toe with a knight, I
on the other hand don't believe a mage should go toe to doe with a
sword in his hand and armor on... that would mean he/she is a
warrior not a mage. I see mages as somewhat more frail than a
warrior... and quite a bit less armored. Mages make use of
dexterity to perform certain gestures and heavy armor would just get
in the way (I use an encumberance rating and a max encumberance on
each spell... the weight of your armor determines your encumberance
% when compared to your strength... dedicated mages get a real
shaft here because your stats are based on what you do regularly and
mages rarely have things which increase physical attributes)
I didn't say that a mage shouldn't be able to take a knight on, I
said that a magic user shouldn't get hit often. I see magic as
having too many options to allow mages to stand there and get hit
without dire consequences. It's a balancing point.
