[MUD-Dev] Methods to Foster Relationships?

Much has been made of the difference between EQ's high downtime
model and DAoC's low downtime model in reference to building
relationships and I just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

I find it interesting to note that I've made more and closer friends
in DAoC than I ever did in EQ, despite having less downtime in which
to relate on a social level. I've also found that the time I HAVE
spent in socializing has generally been richer and much more
rewarding in DAoC than it ever was in EQ. Now, DAoC has specified
certain servers as "roleplaying" servers and that may be a
contributing factor as I do play almost exclusively on them, but the
anecdotal evidence suggests that even within an environment of
reduced downtime strong, lasting relationships can still be
fostered.
