Except that rule has obvious exceptions, as already illustrated with
EQ high level guilds keeping raid tactics to themselves.

There are even quests that were kept secret for a long time by
people looking to corner the market in the rewards. Or brilliant
hunting spots that people don't want to reveal for fear of them
becoming too popular. Or exploits that were kept quiet so that the
results weren't too obvious to developers. So whilst superficially a
lot of information is shared, you'd be surprised quite how much
isn't.
