I didn't think my experience would come as a surprise to most people
when I said it, let alone be a contentious statement. That it has/is
means I really need now to go off and try and re-find them and
collate names, stats, and URLs.

If anyone has any they know of, or can remember any info on no
matter how vague (I'm going to have to try and remember games I've
only looked at briefly :( - so any reminders would help ) then send
them to me and I'll collate the info.

Heh. Perhaps Sir Bruce could do an "indie-only" chart too :).

NB: a lot of those I've encountered wouldn't particularly think of
themselves as MMOG's (because they think that means they MUST be a
fantasy CRPG). Also most of them, IIRC, came from people outside the
mainstream games industry (hey, they're indie games - what do you
expect? ;)) and so their creators/directors have little
awareness/appreciation of things we would consider
standard. E.g. not having heard of GDC, or thinking they'd be
unwelcome at E3, etc.

PS: I guess I find a lot of these things because I have a lot of
feelers out to find new MMOG's - it's rather useful when you're
running a company that licenses software to them! I've certainly put
a huge amount of time into setting up contacts and sourcing data
streams that would give me advance warning on things soon enough
that they would still be considering licensing their tech instead of
rolling-their-own, so perhaps it's just that paying-off for me?
