I don't play MMO's any more, largely for this reason.  I simply
don't have the time to play for days to get to the point where a
game becomes "fun."  A NWN PW I code for, however, does not have
this problem.  The game is extremely RP oriented and players are
involved as soon as they create a character.  Gaining levels really
doesn't change anything anyway, since the challenge is always
intended to match party skill.  The only difference between a high
and low level character are some fancy items and bigger monsters;
the dynamic is the same.  though I'll grant that many player find
repetitive item accumulation very enjoyable.  The success of Diablo
will attest to that.
