I think grinding is just ... hanging out. You're there, in your
makebelief world, being your makebelief hero, smacking evil stuff
which you ofcourse vigorously oppose, being the good guy (invert for
evil types). You might as well ask what the point is of sitting on
your porch with some beers, some friends, watching the sun crawl
by. You achieve little, if anything, but you're satisfied just being
there.
