Yep.  Just like those silly chess players who check-mate each other
back and forth for rankings - and most of them don't even get any
phat loot! Ladders are proven systems for ranking players in a
competetive game, and have been in use for far longer than online
games have existed.  IMO implementing a PvP ranking system as a
ladder is a tremendous step forward, as the idea of becoming a
grandmaster at chess simply by playing a certain number of games is
absurd.
