I don't think motivation is what matters when it comes to making a good
game. After all, does the writer ask what the readers want when he writes
a story about his childhood? Does the artist consider what the viewer
wants to see when he paints a portrait of his wife? He takes into account
the size of the canvas, perspective, golden ratios, color theory, negative
space, lighting, proportion, and iconography.

Enjoyment isn't the only motivation out there. In fact, one could say that
some play games they DON'T enjoy with more frequency than ones they do.
