An interesting note on all this...

Are we really looking for photo-realism? Or realism?

People tend to forget that they aren't the same thing.  This was
really brought home to me in one of the recent upgrades of the CoX
engine.  It now does depth of field.

Thing is, depth of field is an artifact of *photography*, not of human
vision.  Thus it actually makes the game look more cinematic but less
real.

To me, thats a distraction since what I'm going for is immersion.
