My knee-jerk reaction is to assume the first - the game is not a match for
what you enjoy. If you were to talk about some of the problems you see,
perhaps we could all speculate on the specifics.
The fact that you're designing your own game is only causing you to have
refined views on what you enjoy. Everyone's expectations going into Ultima
Online were somewhat open. We only found out that we liked 'this' and
didn't like 'that' as we encountered it. Once we'd gone through the wringer
a few times in various games, we've discovered our preferences and know what
we want in games.
If Sony/Sigil marketed Vanguard exactly as Vanguard is and as it will play,
then they will attract the exact right players, and those players will be
happy. This may explain the attitude of other reviewers. Their desire for
entertainment is precisely matched by what Vanguard delivers.
