[MUD-Dev2] [Design] Personal virtual worlds

Really, I'm surprised you even devoted that much time to addressing
PVWs, in the first place! To me, they just don't make any sense at
all.

Personally, I don't see a large demand for the ability to make PVWs.
The horrible truth is that most people are consumers. They may have
all kinds of ideas about what kind of world they would like to make,
but would balk at the amount of work required to make it a reality --
even with the easiest of toolkits. They love customizing things --
and by all means, we should let them. But, creating and maintaining
worlds is not the kind of work that just anyone can or even wants to
do.

Oh, people can point to YouTube all day, but seriously, how much work
does it take to make a short film of a bride freaking out about her
hair, compared the amount of work it takes to create and maintain a
world?

Builders are a rare and wonderful breed. I'm all for giving them good
tools. But I don't see a future where "millions of people" make their
own worlds. There's not enough payoff for the amount of work
involved.

I think that when most of our friends are game developers, sometimes
we forget that we're weird. :)
