City of Heroes/Villains is a bit more action oriented than most MMO's
that I've seen and can be played in short sessions without a whole lot
of regard to character level. If you fall behind your friends because
they play 24x7 and you have a day job... you can always sidekick and
join them when you do have the time to spend more than 20-30 minutes in
the game.
But as far as faster paced gameplay... Well, Auto Assault tried that but
failed pretty miserably.
Tabula Rasa is also making promises of some dramatically different
gameplay. Their front page claims that they are "Combining fast-paced
action with the immersion of a role-playing game..." Here's to hoping
that they'll get the mix right ;)
Hmm... all of those are NCSoft titles...
