The value of Metaplace goes well beyond game worlds.  I've still the 
"OtherLand" view on virtual presence and am still waiting for an entity 
ready to step up to the plate.

I've an email out to Raph asking their interest in corporate injection and 
as yet have heard nothing. (why this came about is quite compelling in its 
own right - we had a franchise owner asking for a Second Life presence just 
last week. This is hardly a demographic known for blue sky dreaming - they 
want to put money on the table.  Ironically an interview with Raph recently 
spells out in clear detail why no corporation will touch Second Life past 
the experimental phase. Bouncing genitalia for the loser...)

If they are clever they can pre-position Google and introduce an open web 
standard version of what VRML tried to promise a half decade ago.  If not... 
well I have a line out to Google as well.  We're merely Fortune 1000 so 
we'll probably slip below Google's radar.
