In my experience this list is largely immune from the Usenet taint of 
endless preening and plume evaluation witticisms... it tends to revert 
to exchange of ideas and factual matters pretty quickly. Christopher's 
project sounds interesting to me and perhaps we can soldier on for now 
without the whole 'pretentious fop' categorization scheme?

I'm still not sure what was meant about the part about the original 
query where Christopher worried about the efficiency of the ASCII art 
computation? presentation? output? manipulation? More specifics would 
aid an answer.
