[DGD] applying network patch to latest experimental version

I've been trying to add networking capabilities to DGD but I'm at a
loss for adapting the patch.  I know next to nothing about DGD's
internal structure and most of the patches dribble reject files all
over the place.

Any ideas as to how to update the networking patch?  Or is someone
already doing that for the experimental branch (if so, where is it?)?
