[DGD] Pet peeves for users in a MUD

Come to think of it, I think the collateral damage possible to an opponent
in battle is reason enough not to permit scot-free hot quits regardless of
the innocence or guilt of a quitter, since one character should never suffer
as a result of another character that happens to have a flaky (by accident
or design) player.
Letting a player quit-cheat his character out of non-combat (i.e.
environmentally) derived danger rightly provokes anger from other players,
and is thus also a major no-no.
Having said that, making sure that a quitting player doesn't get dinged just
because he happened to quit while his character was tied up by adrenaline
rules established to prevent the previously cited issues is itself
desirable, but should probably take a back seat considering scope.
I now think that mr. linkdead should:
1) (given) Allow pending combats to resolve
2) (given) Prevent dangerous situations from being quit-cheated out of
3) (given) Return control promptly to the player if he returns before his
character gets dumped in the cooler.
4) (maybe) Give the character the benefit of the player's common sense if
an escape route is obvious for either 1 and/or 2.
5) (BIG maybe) While waiting for an all-clear from the character's
adrenaline meter, make good guesses about what to do in the meantime,
perhaps with some assistance of "standing orders" left by the player through
configuration.
Mr. Linkdead may even decide to just sip his margarita and sit on his duff
doing nothing different than if the player was online but simply idle.
