In my spare time, of which I have little, I am building a DGD-based
server for Asheron's Call.

Asheron's Call is an early MMO which closed down at the beginning of
this year. I played it for a while in 1999-2000, and always thought it
was a pity that I could not change and improve this game.

Asheron's Call was supposed to be making game servers freely available
at one point (as in, game servers that you can run yourself), but that
never happened. Crucially, the intellectual property is owned by
Warner Brothers, so it will never be legal to host your own game
on the internet.

I am doing this as a for-fun project, and also as a workout for Hydra,
which improved significantly because of it. All the code is written
to take advantage of Hydra's multi-processor acceleration, but it will
also work on DGD. I have set myself the additional goal of also adding
a telnet interface, allowing graphical and text-based clients connected
to the same server.

The project is advancing at a glacial pace, and I will release a first
version sometime soonish. The license is GPL.

Regards,
Felix Croes
