Its simpler than that.  Intentionally or not you have equated RP with
intelligent civilised behaviour, and GOP and powerplay (and to some
extent anything else which is not RP per your definition) with
antisocial juvenile knee-jerk testosteroid genital measurement.  A
large faction of this list, specifically most of the original members
are not immersive RP players per your definition, and conciously or
not, react aggressively to the above equation.  It echoes the various
programming language and OS religious wars in character.

I've certainly fallen into this defensive camp.  I don't consider
myself a powerplayer or even a GOP (I have no great interest in
"beating" the system) and I have little interest or affinity for
immersive RP, yet I find myself defending my preference for non-RP
games.  It is silly.  The equation is flawed in base principle, and
everything else from there is chest thumping.  

Let the RP vs Powergaming vs GOP vs the world thread die.  Now.  Chest
thumping is not signal, it is noise.
