whitestar.pyrsonal.com is the new public server for the realtime, multiuser
networked game "crossfire".
Playing is 100% free.
Once you connect to it via a client, it is somewhat similar to an LPmud.
You choose a character (but you "roll" stats, a la D&D), buy gear, and
go kill monsters. You also get to chat with other people, party up with them,
and explore strange new areas.
But the big difference: This has GRAPHICS!
Overall, it's kind of a cross between the old arcade game "Gauntlet",
and the "Ultima" games.
Previously, you had to have a unix machine connected to the net to play. But
now, there is a java client, so most people out there can now join in.
As mentioned in another post, the java client is available from
http://www.bolthole.com/jcrossclient/
That page also gives you screenshots of the game, and mentions where to get
the unix client prog, if you are so inclined.
