On VH, we came up with a method where a spellcasting "locks" your player
into casting the spell for a specific casting time (that comes down as
your level goes up).

If you type *ANYTHING* (even "who"), it cancels your spell and you loose
the mana.

Makes magic for combat a very.. umm.. "better have backup" kind of
idea. And player vs player - its easy to run away from spells. Then
again, we're not a PvP mud, for the most part.

And then there's still regenerating mana. Mana regenerates very
slowly.. unless you wait for the volcano to pop up its stones (which
bonk you on the head and hurt).. which you crush for additional
spellpoints.
