Pursuant to the general chain of investigation of basing MUD servers
on RDBMS'es and SQL DBMS's in particular, Informix is releaseing a
copy of its Informix-SE database for Linux/x86, for free, to
registered Informix developers. See:

  URL:http://www.informix.com/idn/

and:

  URL:http://www.slashdot.org/articles/980722/1430228.shtml

for details. Note that you will have to register with Informix before
being able to gat a copy.

Oracle and Ingres have alse already commited to producing Linux
(presumably x86) versions of their database and development tools, but
have yet to comment on their distribution means or charges (yet).
Oracle is strongly rumoured to have Linux/x86 versions currently
running in-house and available "if you know the right people".
