Writing as list owner:

Yeah, Steward has some bugs -- I've got this one tracked down, but its
non-trivial to fix. I'm not going to invest the time right now (SGI is
already taking far too much of my time), especially as I'm moving the list
off my personal workstation and onto a dedicated mail server (getting a
dedicated 'net connection on Weds). As I type what will (soon) be the new
mail server is getting its OS install (post one dead 3c509, one dead SCSI
adaptor, one should-be-supported-but-isn't SCSI adaptor (anyone want a DTC
3274?) and one dead motherboard).

I am currently evaluating list softwares for the list, with Petidomo and
IDG currently heading the list (petidomo is winning and majordomo is ruled
right out). Evaluations of other possible list softwares are welcome from
anyone with relevant experience. I hope to settle that question in the
next few days, and then run the new list sofware in parallel with Steward
for a week or two before switching everything over.

That done, we will no longer be dependant on GlobeComm's or IBM's mail
servers being healthy, just one little machine here which will do nothing
but (no other servers running).
