Because it would require a lot of special-case handling structures that
would needlessly complicate the code. Yes, it would be VERY nice to have
360 degree aiming, you could swing your gun up and over and back down
smoothly in one mouse movement... but at some point you have to
automatically rotate the view to avoid turning the display upside down.
While this could be done efficiently, it wasn't a high priority, so it
didn't get done. Sort of like water and lava brushes can't be attached to
entities (liquid can't actively move, for the non-Quake-editor people in
the crowd). Would it be nice to do? Yeah. Would it make for cool stuff?
Yeah. But you can only be so cool at one sitting, you know. ;)
