Some years ago I saw some articles (scientific) on agents (software robots)
and emotions. If I had kept the references then I could have posted them.
Instead I drop this link to Sony's emotional robot AIBO and hope it can
spark som discussions.
Happiness
AIBO's eyes sparkle (green lights)
and its melody and motions
express happiness when, for
example, it is doing something it
enjoys, finds a color it likes, or is
praised.
Sadness
AIBO's melody and motions
express sadness when, for
example, it wants to play but
nobody is around, or when it
is left with low batteries.
Anger
AIBO's eyes turn angry (red
light) and its melody and
motions express anger
when, for example, someone
is close by but won't pay
attention to AIBO, when it
wants to move but nobody
will take it off its station, or
when it is scolded.
Surprise
AIBO's eyes look surprised and its
melody and motions express
surprise when, for example,
someone suddenly pays attention
to it after it is left alone for a long
time, or when it hears a loud noise
Fear
AIBO's melody and
motions express fear when,
for example, it comes to a
place where there is a
steep drop-off or when it
falls over and can't get back
up.
Dislike
When AIBO is shown a
color it dislikes or when, for
example, it is very angry at
someone, its eyes turn
angry (red light) and it
moves away from the
object or person.
