[MUD-Dev] Ultimate Universe Documentation

For primarily nostalgic purposes, I have posted the documentation for the
final DOS release of Ultimate Universe 2.04 at
http://www.ultimate-universe.com/uu-docs.html -- those who are interested
in such things may want to go and have a look. I am now working on a
similar conversion for the in-game help files, which are already converted
to text but have been badly organised and need some real cleaning up, and
the default game device database.

The archive of UU programs at ultimate-universe.com has also expanded a
good deal, thanks to the pack-rat instincts of Troy Jones who was kind
enough to zip up over thirty old programs and FTP them over. Fifteen of his
submissions have been stacked up there; the rest were either old versions
or duplicates of existing downloadable files on the site. We are still
looking for the most recent UUTerm, which would have been last released in
1995 or 1996, and for anyone who has a registered version of the "Trader"
AI module (I am unsure as to whether this module was ever actually
released, to be honest, as I last remember hearing about it when the author
was promising it would be finished "real soon now"... so it may not be
something that can even be found).

Development on the new UU 2.5 release is proceeding, slowly but surely, and
I anticipate having a stable and reasonably bulletproof foundation for the
game logic by the end of the summer -- encapsulating all of the file
handling and network communication in two modular packages which will
probably end up being source-released as the official UU devkit and as a
portable MUD-server framework, respectively.
