Hello All...

I actually have a question but wanted to through in a thought or
useless comment about backstories.

In the time that I have been mudding, around 5 years now, I rarely ever
read any of the info on any mudding site. Since I have allways found
muds to play through the mud connector, I only read the short
description of the mud there.

I have also ran many muds and have been activly coding on a few
including my own codebase which is still being built. One of our main
goals is to have the story of the mud within the mud. This is where the
story is read if you have detailed areas that make the world more
insteresting.

To me, A back story may be good for some but even I have seen
backstories or histories of muds that aftertime were never updated and
no longer pertained to the mud anymore. It's odd that the majority of
muds online don't even have a web page containing any info about the mud
at all. But then again, Jeremy of CircleMud said it write when after the
luanch of diku came many other code bases that were simply to compile
and had enough areas to be put online in a matter of minutes.

Back when Diku first came out, You had to no more about coding in order
to get the mud to compile and up and running, These days you can find
huge code bases full of areas, skills and spells that offer more than
most muds that have been running for years.

Since muds are so easy to start, There seems to always be conflicts on
what mud is best, which is most fun ect. I read about it on various mud
lists and it's ashame that it's so hard to find the better ones.

 Now to my question!
I would like to get some ideas on changing the economy system in Rom.
I have already made various changes where gold adds up but is useless
untill you get enough to trade it in for for other types of things for
weapons. This is still being worked on atm.

My code is Rom24b4 but many changes have been made. I never did like
the economy because it's the same for low level players are heros. This
has been something that I have tried to work out but never quite got the
idea of what to do. I have even converted smaug1.4 and circle to level
like Rom but to keep the housing and economy but didn't like that
either, then I took that code and put in it my Rom and made various
changes but something just isn't right.

I started coding on the mud about 2 years ago and have never asked for
ideas from the out side world, I just tried to scan various lists to
creat something that would hopefully be fun. Now I have a Rom base with
almost 3 times as much code as the original but I sometimes wonder if it
was worth the work. I was doing this mainly for fun and to have
something to do and never really planned on opening up the mud, I just
wanted to try and fix what wasn't broken but make some things work
better or offer more.

Let me know you comments if you would.
 Thanks for the help..

Chris Bunting
