Not only is a paladin simply good though, they are expected to be the
most rigid of lawful good, and fanatical followers of their religion.
Some of a paladin's abilties could be tied to regligious favor and
alignment - protection from evil could be made much stronger by the
paladin's exceptional alignment. Paladin's who allow their alignment to
drop would quickly "fall out of favor", would begin to lose battles, and
would find their skills failing them
at the worst of times. Certain deeds could also carry a heavy weight
with a character. Its possible that a paladin can perminantly fall from
grace by certian hidious actions. While this character could still be a
paladin, the abilities that come with the class either wouldn't be
present or would be weakened dramatically. A paladin which had by their
actions fallen from grace would quickly find themselves in need of a new
profession.
Just a thought

Also I like not having the concept of starting classes. Its much better
IMHO to determine class through roleplaying, and allows players much
more creativity.
