[MUD-Dev] Portable Device Integration

Has anyone ever considered (or implemented) using XML (or any supported
language) to merge some of the portable devices (PDA, cell phone,
tablePC, etc.) into your online MUD world?
As an example, say that the cell phone is one device that has been
integrated into the VPWS (Virtual Persistant World State). Using VoiceXML
technology (http://www.xml.com/pub/Guide/Voice_Browsers), the cell phone
user is able to manipulate a limited set of functions of his or her avatar
in their VPWS.
Thereby, a caller would dial your 900 (or whatever) mud line and
communicate to the mud with their voice. This interaction could be with
players, NPCs, or with a set of features designated by the MUD
admin. Retrieve the local news, publish oral declarations, or possibly
use this technology to remote admin the mud.
I am looking at the possibility of doing something very similar to this
and would like to know if anyone has any experience/resources they could
share on the matter.
