Howdy all,

Derek, Nick, Richard, Russ and myself have discussed this in length
via the Diku licensing lists and frankly, there is money to be made in
MUDding.

Fact is if your code is not infringing on someone else's code, you can
support yourself with it. I should not have to mention a few MUD
owners which do it legally. Pay-2-Play MUDs are in a market on thier
own and after talking with Chris at Skotos, he is depending on that.

Original code can get you everywhere. There are no licensing
restrictions and this allows you to do many things those such as Diku
limit.

Personally, why do people seem drawn to MUDs which you have to pay for
when there are thousands which are free and some are alot better to
begin with. Actually, I do not know, I played only a few on invite by
the owner and I did not find anything too spectacular or which I could
not have had made easily.

If you can code from scratch and can produce something which you
enjoy, then you should be free to try to sell it for a profit. The
U.S.A. especially is an open market, why not benefit? I am not a
Coder/Programmer in the aspect that I do not have an original peice of
code in my head, but I sure can menuver and alter code. This is my
handicap and prevents me from trying to create and market original
code.

Actually, since I run two of the more popular MUD sites in the purely
text based community, I decided to go the route of TMC and run banner
ads so I can afford to support my MUD endeavours.

It is all how you do it and if you know ways to market it.

Incase you did not know who I spoke of on the Diku list, here they are:

Derek Snider - SMAUG
Nick Borko - Death's Domain
Richard Woolcock - GodWars
Russ Taylor - RoM
