*ahem* It was my idea. I enjoy history. The Achaeans were the Greeks
of the Heroic Age (Homer). They postdated the Mycenaens and predated
the Dorians. Specifically, in Homer, they were a Greek-speaking people
of southern Thessaly, however because they were the most powerful of
the Greek tribes, when Homer talks about the siege of Troy, he often
refers to all the Greeks as Achaeans.

Much later, around 279 BC or so, many of the Peloponnesian cities
(Patrae, Dyme, Pellene, etc) formed the Achaean League. Eventually,
under Aratus of Sicyon, the entire Peloponnesus except Sparta and Elis
joined. They freed Athens from the Macedonians that ruled her, and
from then until the Roman conquest, she was left alone by other Greek
states because everyone recognized how important Athens was as the
intellectual center of the Greek world.

The Achaean League eventually fell after many battles with the rival
Aetolian League, who used kryptonite on the Achaean League's chief
superhero, Aristotle. One wonders where Aquaman was in all of this.
