I won't agree to that.  I don't see why we should assume that
Pacific Islander cultures only have "our" myths in different form.
I remember going to Disneyland as a 5 year old, to something called
"The Tiki Room."  I remember being creeped out by some Hawaiian fire
god who stood on his head.  That's not a dragon.  From what little I
know of those cultures, I'd be very surprised to find out that fire
was associated with reptiles.  I'd expect land masses or something.

I do think if you're going to search through alternate cultural
materials, you should look for what's *different* in those cultural
materials.  Otherwise, why bother?
